When Retrofits Get Complicated

This Anaheim hotel wanted to switch a failing chiller out for a new like-sized unit. Things seemed straight forward until we realized that the panel was not adequately rated for the 400 amp draw the new unit required. Additionally, the new unit was larger than the old one, requiring modifications to the piping design.

Prior to the installation: Pro Star provided a rental chiller and hooked it up to the building. Next the electrical sub-panel was replaced along with new wiring laid between the main panel and sub-panel. Next, we redesigned the piping layout and replaced both chiller pumps. Now we were ready to install the new 145 ton chiller.

Managing the work flow: The new chiller was up and running by the end of the second day. Our crew worked tirelessly and the project manager ensured on-going communication with ownership. Included in the install was a one-year service plan on the new unit.
